DV Lottery

Documents You Will Go With To The DV Medical Examination | Green Card Lottery

DV Medical Examination: When do you apply or schedule for your medical examination? Immediately you receive your second notification letter, 2NL, you are supposed to schedule for your medical examination.

When you are processing for the diversity visa program, you have to do the visa interview. When the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), the government agents which is responsible to schedule the interview for you give you a notice of the interview at least six weeks in advance, the next process you need to do is the medical examination.

Where Do I Do My Medical Examination For DV Interview?

You (and each family member applying for a visa with you) are required to schedule a medical appointment with an authorized physician in the country where you will be interviewed.

You must complete your medical examination, along with any required vaccinations, before your scheduled visa interview date.

When your medical exam is completed, if you are given a medical exam envelope, you must bring it sealed (not opened) to your visa interview. Some physicians will send the medical exam results directly to the embassy or consulate.

Do you select which doctor to conduct your medical examination?

The answer is no. You are supposed to book an appointment with the medical center or the physician specified by the United States Embassy in your country.

Medical Examination Process and Requirements for DV Interview

Which documents are you supposed to carry with you, when attending the medical examination for the DV lottery?

  • Your vaccination records

It is a major requirement for medical examination. You must have the COVID-19 vaccine before you go to the medical examination. Because in the medical examination, they are going to do the cross-look of your vaccine record.

From October first, 2021, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, released the new mandate that if you have to get the visa for immigrant visa, even non-immigrant visa, you must have the COVID-19 vaccine. So you must have the vaccine in order to go to the medical.

The vaccine, the COVID-19, was not part of the requirement previously, but it has started from October first, 2021 going forward.

The passport photos for each and every member in your application. Depending with which country you come from, the embassy may require several photos. Some embassy requests for three photos for every member, others they request five photos for every member.

Other Documents You Will Go With To The DV Medical Examination

  • The appointment letter, don’t forget the appointment letter.
  • The confirmation page of your DS-260. Don’t forget to carry the confirmation page of the DS-260.
  • The medical documents if you are under medication currently.
  • If you have ever had these contagious diseases or one of them, like for example, the tuberculosis and the syphilis and you had been treated, you should go with that certification that shows you had it and you have completely been treated.
  • A valid passport for all the members in your application.

Can you be denied the visa because of a certain thing found in the medical?

The answer is yes.

The things which can cause you to be delayed to get the visa is if you have the TB, tuberculosis, you will be required to go and be treated first before you come.

That is a mandatory because in the United States, they have already eradicated the tuberculosis. So they fear people to bring the tuberculosis in the United States.

The other thing which is very big one is if you have a mental problem which can be a harmful or can cause a mass crime, disruptions, maybe can bring a mass shooting, that type of problem you might be being inadmissible to the United States.

Also, if you have excessive use of drugs, that will be able to cause you not to be admissible to the United States.

I hope the information there is useful to you.

Diversity Visa Program | Visa Bulletin for November 2023

The U.S. Department of State has released its Visa Bulletin for November 2023. That’s a big deal if you’re waiting for your priority date to be current so that your green card application can move forward.

For the previous cut-off numbers from the previous visa bulletin i.e the visa bulletin for the month of October, check this post.

Diversity Visa Program | Visa Bulletin for November 2023

Section 203(c) of the INA provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit additional immigration opportunities for persons from countries with low admissions during the previous five years.

The NACARA stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program. This will result in reduction of the DV-2024 annual limit to approximately 54,850.

DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

For November, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:

visa bulletin for november 2023

Entitlement to immigrant status in the DV category lasts only through the end of the fiscal (visa) year for which the applicant is selected in the lottery. The year of entitlement for all applicants registered for the DV-2024 program ends as of September 30, 2024.

DV visas may not be issued to DV-2024 applicants after that date. Similarly, spouses and children accompanying or following to join DV-2024 principals are only entitled to derivative DV status until September 30, 2024. DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2024 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.

THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN DECEMBER, 2023

For December, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. DV Lottery Program | Misconceptions on Green Card Lottery

Misconceptions on DV (Green Card) Lottery

This guide will focus on the misconception or fake news, fake stories about the Green Card lottery applications.

There are so many issues, information, they are circulating around and people believe they are true about Green Card lottery. These are some of them.

Misconceptions on Green Card Lottery | DV Lottery Program

  • If you use someone who is in America to fill the DV lottery for you, you’ll be having higher chances of winning.

It doesn’t matter the person who is manually filling the DV lottery application form for you, or where the person is. Even yourself, if you are applying for the DV lottery and you’re in Europe or you’re in America, it doesn’t mean that you are going to win just because you were there, no, it doesn’t matter where you are, it’s a lottery.

Even if you live in America, it will never change your place of birth. Even if you win, if you are born in Africa, it will say AF as your case number. You will be processed as Africa regardless of where you are. If you are from Asia, even if you live in America, it will not change anything.

The location of the applicant, the location of the person who is filling the DV lottery application has nothing to do with increasing your chances of winning.

  • Filling the DV lottery on the first day or to be the first person to fill the DV lottery doesn’t make you the winner.

DV selection process is not done on a daily rolling bases. The selection process is even done during the application period, is done next year. It’s not going to be done right away, for you to be able to process immediately you submitted your application and you were the winner, no.

Someone can apply two hours before the deadline and win. You can apply like 30 minutes before the deadline and win. But is not advisable you to apply on the last day because something might happen. Maybe there is no electricity where you are or maybe the internet is down completely because so many people are applying on that last day.

Don’t wait until the last minute or last day before you apply. But don’t also rush your application. If you don’t have the picture of your spouse and the information for your spouse, don’t go to apply, because you want to be the first one to apply. There is no applying early means to win early, no.

  • If you are highly educated, you are likely to be chosen faster than the person who is not highly educated.

Not true. On the selection, they don’t care whether you’re primary school, whether you’re doctorate, they don’t care. It is only applicable when giving the visa, but it has nothing to do with the selection.

So when you don’t win, you don’t say you did not win because you didn’t go to high school, no. Or maybe because you don’t have years of experience, there is not even mention of the year of experience in the DV lottery application.

  • The time to apply DV lottery

This is another story which is not true. Some people think that if you apply during the midnight or 1:00AM is when you are going to win. Or if you apply on Sunday or Friday, that is the time you are going to win, no.

The day and time you apply or applied for DV lottery does not matter, but make sure you apply before the deadline and try to apply before last date to avoid any form of disappointment.

Find the time when you have good internet to apply, but don’t think that you have to force yourself to apply to certain time, that’s why you didn’t win.

  • Mistake on place of birth, wrong name spelling,

Another misconception is “maybe when I was filling the form, I made a mistake on place of birth, that’s why I didn’t win”. Or “maybe I made a mistake on the spelling of my name, that’s why I didn’t win”. Or “maybe I make a mistake on number of children, maybe that’s why I didn’t win”. These doesn’t stop you from being a winner.

As long your application was successful submitted and you didn’t do duplicate application, the photo was correct, obviously you’re going to be considered.

Although there are some factors that might cause you not to win. One of the biggest factor is the number of applicants, usually is higher than the number of people are going to be selected.

For instance, the DV-2024 lottery last year, after people applied, the results came out, 22,185,000 are the people who applied for the DV lottery application. Guess how many won? 143,000 won. Meaning one applicant in every 155 applicants became the winner of the DV lottery.

There is a chance in 155 people, one becomes the winner. Even if everything’s correct, you might not win.

You have to avoid these kinds of misconceptions. That you didn’t win because you made a mistake on the name, no, those are necessarily misconception.

Just apply, pray to God and continue through your life.

Those are some of the misconceptions when it comes to the DV lottery. Be aware of what you are talking about when it comes to these misconceptions.

Some people, they think they didn’t win because they applied as a single, no. Or “if I say I’m married, this U.S government is preferring people who are married, so I have to put my girlfriend or my boyfriend as married so that I’m going to win”, no, that’s misconceptions on Green Card Lottery.

Yes, people who are married have a higher chance because a husband will be allowed to apply and the wife is allowed to apply, so that if you (husband or wife) win, you can go with another one (husband or wife). So that’s two chances. But don’t say or think you are going to become the winner just by saying you are married. No, that is a misconception.

Be careful with what you believe about Green Card Lottery.

I hope that the information is clear and well understood.

What Question do they ask DV Winners at DV Lottery Visa Interview?

DV Lottery interview Questions and Answer

People do ask question about the type of questions that are expected to be asked in the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery interview and what are the correct answers you need to have in order to guarantee you to be given the visa.

Remember, when you apply and win the diversity visa lottery doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee to have or to be given the visa. There are other things, there will be interview for that. But the interview for the diversity visa lottery is one among the easiest, the fastest type of the interview you’ll ever have, if you have ever been to the U.S Embassy by any case.

Why this type of visa interview is different and what type of the questions are they going to ask you?

They are not going to ask you questions which are part of what we call non-immigrant visa. Remember, the non-immigrant visa is the visa type where you apply to go to the United States of America for a specified period of time, like you are going as a student for two years in Master’s program and expect to come back to your country or to go for bachelor’s degree for four years and expected you to come back after finishing your studies.

For that particular case, most of the questions for non-immigrant visas will be towards you proving that you’ll be coming back to your home country. You don’t have the any type of intention to relocate and to stay there permanently.

But the good thing is the Green Card Lottery is immigrant visa, meaning you are going to be sponsored by the U.S government, guaranteed by the U.S government to become permanent resident of the United States of America.

For that case, they are not going to ask you a question like “Tell me or prove to me that you’ll be coming back to your home country”, “Tell me how much you love your country”, “Tell me how committed you are”. They don’t care all those kinds of things. But what then do they care about?

DV Lottery interview Questions and Answer

They are going to ask you to prove to them that you are who you are, but first they’ll just congratulate you for winning the DV lottery before even they ask you anything.

They are going to ask you about your education or work experience.

Question: What is your level of education?

Answer/Hint: My level of education is a bachelor’s degree, is high school, is masters.

Question: Show me the evidence. Give me the certification, give me the transcript you have.

Answer/Hint: You give to them your education documents.

Question: They might ask you, even if you have PhD, what do you do for a living? What’s your current job or what type of job do you do? Or what business do you do? If you say you do a certain job, they might ask you, do you have any documentation? How long have you been doing?

Answer/Hint: Prove to them by showing them your evidence which you need to have. They expect things like a contract letter from your employer, they expect things like a letter from your employer or ID. You need to have so many evidences to prove that you are who you are and you are working from there.

You have recommendation letter. You have any proof and documentation, including even the phone number of your supervisor or the owner or the manager who can verify in case they want to prove that.

Those are some of the questions they may ask you there. Other questions they might ask you are below:

Question: Which state are you going to leave?

Answer/Hint: I’m going to live in Virginia, I’m going to Washington, I’m going to live in Seattle, I’m going to DC, I’m going to Missouri, Kansas, or wherever it is you want to stay, you say it, they don’t care.

There is no right or wrong in which state you are going to stay.

Question: They might ask you, who is your host or what address are you going to stay? What is the relationship with that particular person?

Answer/Hint: I’m going to stay to this particular person, is my friend or is just the person I met online. I was looking for host is going to host me. My host is my relative, my nephew, my uncle, my classmate, whatever, they don’t care. As long as that person is not keen in criminal activities, they don’t care.

Question: They might ask you a question, what do you plan to do in America?

It doesn’t matter what answer you’re going to say, as long as it’s not a criminal related activity. If you say I haven’t made a full decision yet, maybe I might go to school or maybe I want to become a doctor or I want to join the military or I want to work in the warehouse.

Those are just some few questions they might ask just for curious that they want to know. After those questions, you are good to go. There are no many other questions.

That steps or that processes, it is less than three minutes if you are single. If you are married, it can go for five minutes and in the five minutes, they might ask some few questions to your spouse or a child. But those questions to a child or your derivative or dependent as a wife will not affect you in most cases for your visa.

They might ask your child, are you excited to go if you’re a child, what you plan to study? What’s your educational level?

Spouse education level has no impact in deciding whether to be given the visa or not to be given the visa.

This is the easiest type of the interview. About three minutes for a single, maximum five minutes if they’re married or someone with children.

Once you finish the interview, they will tell you to leave your passport with them. Your passport will remain there. They will tell you depending on the country where you are, either you come back on a certain day to take your passport, or they might tell you in some countries, they will send to you through DHL or whatever, certain location, depending on the country to country.

Within a week, maximum two weeks, you’ll have your passport. Once you have your passport, the visa’s term will be for six months to expire. You must travel to the United States within those six months.

Don’t wait too long. So within a month or two, if there is a possibility to travel, just make sure that you travel and go to the United States of America and start your life there.

DV Lottery Program Timeline, from applying until you get the Visa

DV Lottery Program Timeline: What is the timeline for the Diversity Visa Lottery? From applying to winning, from winning to get the visa, from getting the visa to go to the United States of America. What is the timeline?

There are so many changes will be in your life, from the time you apply to the time you arrive in the United States. The process is as follow:

DV Lottery Program Timeline

The application for the diversity visa lottery always starts on the first week of October, which is the first year for the fiscal year of the United States of America.

From October the first week to the first week of November you apply DV lottery. After applying, you have five to six months to wait. That is from November, December, January, February, March, April, up to end of April. Those are six months.

DV Lottery results comes out first week of May. So from the day you apply, you have six months to wait for the results to come out.

Let’s say you have won the DV lottery. What next? What next is there is a timeline. You will fill the visa form, which is called the Department of State form number 260, DS-260.

You are filling the visa form maybe in May, in June, July, doesn’t matter. But the first person to have the DV interview will be on October 1.

DV results comes out in May, you have already waited for six months after applying the DV lottery. Also, you will wait for another five months, i.e May, June, July, August, and September before the DV interview.

If you add six months to five months you will have nine months from the day you applied the DV lottery, then the first person will be interviewed by October.

But your interview might not be in October. It depends on your case number. If someone from Africa, for instance, with zero case number or from one case number to 2000, the interview will be in October. From 2000 to 4000, that will be in November. From 4000 maybe to 7000, that will be in December. Then it goes up that way.

Majority of people, their case number will be at least three to five months later to have the interview. So if you add there, it is almost a year and maybe from the day you applied until the day of the interview, it is more than one year and three months maybe possible, or four months or five months, depending.

Then you go to the interview. From the day of the interview, you are told you have been given the visa. Whether it’s you and your family, you have six months to travel.

Whether you travel on the first day you go to the visa, that’s up to you. You travel next week, next month, two months later. But as long as it’s not exceeding six months, you are good to go.

Majority of people, after receiving the visa, it takes about three months to prepare themselves, especially if they have a family, because there are tickets for the entire family. If you buy quicker, it will be more expensive.

So that makes up to 18 to 20 months, the timeline is long. That’s why there are some people in between, maybe they die, some people in between they get married. Some people in between have children. There are some changes.

If you get married after applying, you are allowed to add the person. If you have the child after applying, you are allowed to add that child in the application in order to go the U.S.

All those are the important things you need to know the timeline. If you are a student, you can still finish your school. You still have almost years in between until you go to America, from the day you apply.

So it is a longer process for people to understand the timeline of the diversity visa lottery.

Filling the Immigrant Visa form DS-260 | GREEN CARD VISA FORMS

Filling the Immigrant Visa form DS-260: You have won the Diversity Visa Lottery and you need to fill the visa form called DS-260 form.

There are two types of visas for the United States. There are visas which are called immigrant visas and the visas which are called non-immigrant.

Immigrant visas are the visas for people who are going to live in America on a permanent basis. You have won the DV Lottery, you are going to become a permanent of the United States, for that particular case, you fill the DS-260 form.

Those who are going to U.S like student, tourist, visitors, exchange visitors or student, for a certain particular time, is called non-immigrant visas and they fill DS-160. The DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application form, is for temporary travel to the United States, and for K (fiancé(e)) visas. Form DS-160 is submitted electronically to the Department of State website via the Internet.

But in this particular guide, we are talking about immigrant form, DS-260. This form has a lot of information. Don’t rush to fill the form and submit. There is no competition in submitting because one mistake can cause you not to be given the visa.

Filling the Immigrant Visa form DS-260

The form needs to have information about yourself, date of birth, place of birth, your education. You will be putting exactly the name of the school, exactly where did you study, which year, address. All the education level you have you are going to put there.

When it comes to the work experience, you will put all the work experience in the past five years you have.

If you are married, or divorced, even if your spouse passed away, you will put their information or you are not planning to go with your spouse, you have to put their information too.

If you have children, whether you are going with them or not going with them. First of all, you have to put them during the DV lottery application, then you have to indicate them in DS-260 form too.

Once you complete the DS-260 application form, you will submit the application.

But if you have married and you are planning to go with your spouse, then there is a place you add derivative, you are dependent in the application. You will open another profile within the form, to add your spouse.

If you have two children, you add the profile of each child who will be going with you and you’re going to fill all the information in the DS-260 form.

Once you submit the completed DS-260 form, then you wait for the next step, which is the request for the documents. But before the request for the documents, if at one point you find out you made a mistake in that DS-260 form, you want to make changes, you cannot make changes once that form is submitted.

What you need to do is call to request the authority which is Kentucky Consular Center, KCC, to unlock your case. When you win, they’ll give you the email address to communicate with KCC.

When writing the mail to KCC, you put the subject, you put their email address, and you don’t need to put much explanation, you ask them to “Please unlock my case number or my DS-260”. But you have to indicate your full name, date of birth, and also you have to indicate your case number so that they can be able to unlock it.

Sometimes it takes a week, two weeks, three weeks, depending on how busy they are.

To avoid unnecessary stress and pressure to think or to wait for them to unlock, make sure you fill everything correctly before you submit the form. Ask another person to review if the names, dates, matter, the place you lived before, everything is correct. So that you don’t need to have a pressure to unlock and then they are not unlocking for two, three weeks. Don’t do that.

Make sure that you fill the visa form correctly.

On the interview time, most of the things you filled in the DS-260 form, if you say you have master’s degree, they will want to see the master’s degree certificate. If you said you have two years of work experience from this organization, they want a proof.

So you must make sure that you put things which you can show as proof and which are true in that particular form.

7 Other Ways To Get A U.S Green Card, If You Did Not Apply DV Lottery

How to Get a U.S Green Card

Let talk about the various ways in which you can obtain a green card to the United States. What are the different ways in which you can get yourself a U.S green card and be a permanent resident in the United States?

7 Other Ways To Get A U.S Green Card, If You Did Not Apply DV Lottery

You can obtain a U.S green card through the following process:

  1. Through Marriage

The first way is through marriage. How about through marriage? If a U.S citizen or a person with permanent resident status in the United States wish to marry a non-citizen that is a person outside the United States, then they can do a legal marriage, and by sponsoring these spouse, they can eventually obtain their green card visa.

By getting married to a U.S citizen or by a person with the permanent resident status in the United States, you can get your visa through that. So if you get a chance to be married by a U.S citizen, then through that way you can obtain your green card.

  1. Through family sponsorship

What about family sponsorship? Maybe you have a family who are living in the United States or they are citizens of the United States. If that member of the family is above 21 years of age, then he or she is eligible to host a family member, maybe a parent or a sibling, too, and through that, they can get green card eventually.

Though it takes some time but you can get your green card by being sponsored by your relative in the United States.

  1. Through Investment

The other way that you can get your green card in the United States is through investment. If you are an entrepreneur and you have some amount to invest in the United States, and this amount should not be less than half a million U.S dollars, so you can invest your way into the United States and obtain a green card.

But you should have an investment worth half a million U.S dollars and create at least 10 jobs. If you comply to this, then you can invest in into the United States and you can obtain your green card.

When you invest your way into the United States, you obtain a visa called the EB-5 visa. This visa you’ll hold it and eventually upgrade it into green card.

  1. Through a work transfer process

The other way you can get your green card is through a transfer process, a work transfer process.

Let’s say, for example, a company is based in the United States and has several branches outside of the United States, and it wants to transfer you from that country to go into the United States to manage an office. Then this company can petition for your green card. But note that this company in the United States should have worked in the United States not less than one year.

So if they want to get a manager to manage their office over there in the United States, then they can consider transferring you from another country and petition for your green card, and this could be one way you can get your green card.

  1. Through Student Visa

You first obtain the student visa and by obtaining the student visa, it will entitle you to a one year post-course “optional practical training” (OPT). During this year, you’ll be working for a company.

When you’re working for a company during this one year, be friendly to your boss and get the boss to apply for you the HB-1 visa. After getting the HB-1 work visa, let your boss apply for you in the Department of Labor, for “Labor Certification”.

When applying for “labor certification”, the boss will have to evidence that there is no American citizen who is willing to take up on the job. By so doing and you get the certificate, then you can apply through that certificate for the Green Card through the Department of Home and Security.

This will take a very long time, but eventually it will be very good for you to do that. So if you have a student visa, you can walk your way into Green Card through that process.

  1. Through Work Sponsorship

You can as well obtain a Green Card through work sponsorship. If you’re outside of the United States and you get an employer who is willing to sponsor you, then you will get what we call the HB-1 visa. That is the HB1 work visa.

So you’ll be working for that employee in the United States under this visa. If you are good to your employer and the employer gets pleased with you, then he or she can proceed and fight for a certificate of labor for you in the Department of Labor.

Then afterwards, he/she can go ahead and take an evidence to the Department of Labor showing that there is no other United States citizen who is willing to take on the job and then he/she will apply for a certificate of labor for you.

Through the certificate of labor, then you can apply for green card. Through this process also you can obtain a green card.

  1. Through Diversity Visa Lottery

The final way that will be discuss in this post is definitely through the lottery, the famous Diversity Visa Lottery or the Green Card lottery.

You can win your way into the United States and get a Green Card through the DV Lottery Program. This is a program by the United States that occur every year in October. That is the beginning of the fiscal year of the United States.

Within the first week of October and the first week of November, the applicants are supposed to apply for the DV lottery. After that, a selection will be done automatic by the computers. If you are successful, then you’ll be selected and come in the following year, then you’ll get your results. If you are selected, you will proceed with the processes to obtain a Green Card visa.

Find out more about How to Properly Fill Out the DV Lottery Application Form (DS-5501) and WIN the Green Card here.

So the other way to get a U.S green card is through the famous Green Card Lottery. Remember, each year there is a provision of 55,000 visas in the Green Card Lottery.

These are the ways in which you can obtain a Green Card into the United States. What are you waiting for? If you have the chance and opportunity, apply it through any of the ways.

I hope this guide was very informative to you.

The photo may seem a very small aspect of the DV lottery application and it is likely to be ignored. Someone can ignore the specifications. But remember, the photo is one very great mistake that will eliminate you during the selection process.

You cannot get through with an incorrect photo, with a wrong photo. What does this mean? This means that when you are doing your entry, you must be very precise. You must be very cautious with your photo.

Follow the specified instructions about the DV photo. I have discussed the specification in a former guide here.

Find out more about Photo Requirements for DV Lottery.

The photo background should be the white background or off white, and your face should be directly facing the camera. You should not be wearing anything that is unnecessary, like a cap or a scarf, apart from the religious one.

All those specifications, including the size that it should be a two-inch by two-inch photo, and it should be a 600 by 600-megapixels photo.

Those minor specifications regarding the DV photo, you should follow them to the end because uploading the wrong photo, is the very first greatest mistake that will kick you out of the selection process. You can’t go through the selection process with a wrong photo.

  1. Doing the DV lottery application twice

The second great mistake that you can do and will eliminate you in the selection process is doing the application twice. If you do an application with the same information twice, you are definitely kicked out of the selection process. You can’t get through.

If you realize that you did a wrong application or you inserted a wrong information or you did mistakes during your processing, don’t dare to do a second application with the aim of correcting the mistakes. That is considered a double entry and you are kicked out of the selection process instantly.

Those are the two major mistakes that will not get you through the DV lottery selection process. Avoid them at all costs. Never commit them.

Things People Thought Determined Chances of Selection In DV Lottery, But Do Not

U.S Green Card (DV) Lottery selection process: Let learn those factors that will not affect your chances of getting selected in the DV lottery process.

There are many theories, stories and notions out there that have been raised by many people about the factors that will affect you getting selected, this guide will rectify some ideas that have been put forward regarding the selection process and your chances of getting selected.

Factors that will not affect your chances of getting selected in the DV (Green Card) lottery process

Below are things people thought determined chances of Selection in DV Lottery, but do not:

  • The time you take your photo

The first thing that will not affect is the time at which you take your photo.

Remember, the photo that you will use in the application must not be older than six months. But even if you took the photo one month’s time before the application, one day before the application, or two months or so, that one will not affect the selection process.

  • The place in which you apply from will not affect you.

The other thing that has created theories about selection out there is the location where you were at the point of application or the country in which you were at the time of application. So long as your country was eligible, every one of you will have the same chances of getting selected, equal chances of getting selected.

If you applied while in the United States, maybe you are there on a visit visa or an academic visa, maybe you are there on a family visit and then you applied from that location, that will not guarantee you higher chances of getting selected more than other people in other countries that were qualified.

A person coming from this country and the other one from the other country and the other one from the other one, all of you have the same chances. It is not country-dependent. Not at all.

If you apply from the land of the United States, or if you apply from Ghana, or if you apply from a country in the Middle East or in Europe, the locality in which you are in at the time of application does not affect the selection process.

  • The time of the day in which you apply does not affect selection.

Some people are saying that many that apply in the middle of the night (i.e the midnight) have higher chances of getting selected. No, that’s not correct. The time you apply is not what determines the selection.

In any case, in your country, midnight is not the same as that midnight of the other country’s citizen. One person from this country, the midnight might be different from another person in a different country. So we have different mid-nights in different locations.

Therefore, the time that you apply does not determine. People have applied in the noon time of their country, at 4:00 PM in their country, whichever time in their country and they have gotten selected. So the time factor is not a determinant. That one should not confuse you at all.

If you apply in the morning, if you apply at noon time or at midnight or at 6:00 PM, that one will not affect.

  • The day in which you apply will never matter.

Some are saying that the time you apply affects your chances of getting selected or applying on the first day gives you higher chances of getting selected. That is not correct. Because what would you say of that person that applied on the last day and was selected and moreover, had a lower case number? What would you say of that?

So the notion that if you applied on the first day, you have higher chances of getting selected, that is a wrong notion.

DV selection is randomized and it’s just by a computer program that knows nothing about the time you entered the lottery or the day, but only the numbers that are given and then randomly selects or picks from those numbers.

So about the day that you apply, be it on the first day or the last day or the middle days, that does not matter at all.

If you apply on a Sunday, if you apply on a Monday, if you apply on a Wednesday, if you applied in the beginning of the lottery application period or on the day the lottery application period end or in the middle of the lottery application period, the day in which you apply never affects selection.

  • The gadget that you use in your application will not matter.

If you use an iPhone, if you use Samsung or you use whichever brand, or if you use a computer or a laptop, whatever gadget you use never matters in the selection process.

  • It will not matter if you are single or you are married.

Whether you are single or married, that will not affect your selection in the DV lottery.

  • It will not matter if you have a big family or you have a small family.

If you are a family of two or you are a family of five or you are single, that one does not affect chances of getting selected.

  • It will not matter how many times you’ve entered into lottery.

It does not mean that if you have tried seven times, then you have high chances of getting selected or you have tried once or twice, that one will not affect the chances of getting selected.

  • It will not matter your age.

Whether you’re 30 or 45 or 20 or 18 or 21, the age that you are in does not affect or increase any chance of getting selected. Neither does it lower your chances of getting selected. It does not matter.

  • The person that applies for you or the agent that applies for you.

In any case, you are supposed to do your own application. Don’t get anyone to apply for you. Any person applying for you or the agent applying for you will use the same website that you would have used to make your application.

It will not matter the person applying for you. Whether he or she is in the United States or is in whichever place, or he’s a professional or he is a quark, it will not matter the type of the person applying for you.

  • The level of your education does not determine selection.

The other major thing and theory that has been put outside there is that your academic and professional achievement greatly affects your selection. No, it is not based on any life achievement, any academic prowess, any professional achievement. It is not based on that completely.

Yes the requirement for the DV entry is at least a high school diploma or a two-year work experience within the past five years. If you have your high school certificate and another person has a degree, another one has a diploma in some other country, that is an education above high school, or others have even postgraduate. Others are doctors, others are nurses, other engineers, others teachers.

A person with the PhD, a person with the masters or the degree, all of them have equal chances. One requirement is that all applicants should have attained a high school education.

If you have obtained the high school education, any other level of education higher than that does not determine the selection. It does not mean that with a PhD you have high chances of getting selected and with a degree you have some substantial chances, no.

All of you, even the high school diploma, everyone have equal chances of getting selected.

Regardless of the position or the professional achievement, all of you have the same chances of getting selected. So long as you have achieved the minimum qualification for the DV lottery application, the rest do not factor in. You are equally on the same position in terms of selection. Everyone has equal chances of getting selected.

  • Social Status

DV selection does not depend on the social status, your social status in your community or in your country. Maybe you are a very well-known politician or you are a very big person in your society. That one will not determine your selection at all. It is not based on any merit. It’s just randomized, based on the numbers that were put on those entries.

There are other things that people have created out there about DV selection process, which are not true.

I hope this guide have clearly explained the DV Lottery selection process with focus on those Factors that will not affect your chances of getting selected in the DV lottery process.

Marriage Questions and Answers on DV Lottery Process | Green Card Lottery Process

Marriage Questions and Answers on DV Lottery Process: This guide will answer some family questions regarding the Diversity Visa.

Marriage Questions and Answers on DV Lottery Process

Question: I filled single during the initial entry (Diversity Visa Lottery Application), yet I was married, can I add my spouse in the DS-260 form?

Answer: The answer is directly no.

When entering the diversity visa lottery program, you are supposed to be truthful. Meaning, if you’re married, you are supposed to choose you’re married.

If you had a spouse or children prior to submitting your original entry, but you did not include them on your original entry form, such errors may render you, as well as any of your family members, ineligible for a diversity visa.

If you listed a spouse or child on your original entry who was not your spouse or child at the time of entry, such errors may render you, as well as any of your family members, ineligible for a diversity visa.

If you’re married to a non-citizen of the United States, you indicate that. If you are married to a United States citizen, then you indicate that as well.

But if you’re married and you indicate you are single, there’s no way you can add the spouse in the DS-260. Since you said you are single. Such results to fraud, and fraud definitely will deny you Green card visa, if you did this.

If you applied as single, yet you are married, be sure that you will end up being denied the visa because this is fraud.

If you’re married, indicate you’re married and include the details of your family. If you’re single, just include your single and continue the process.

If your family circumstances have legitimately changed after submitting your original entry, you should add those family members and all family members’ applications will be reviewed.

Question: I filled married because I was customarily married, during the process i separated with my spouse and therefore I cannot obtain a separation document or a divorce document. What will I do?

Answer: To answer this, if at all you cannot prove your separation legally, then there’s no way you will receive your Green card visa.

If you can find ways to get a legal separation, then that’s the only way. But if you are separated and you cannot obtain the legal separation document, then you are screwed. You cannot receive your diversity visa.

How to Apply and Succeed As Single Parents In The DV Lottery Program | U.S Green Card Lottery

Single parents in the DV Lottery Program: This guide is for the single parents that are intending to apply for the DV lottery or are selected or they are selectees in the DV lottery.

Categories of Single Parents in the DV Lottery Program

We have two categories of single parents:

Category one: Maybe you have never gotten married in your life, but you have kids and that means that even when getting the kid, delivering the kid, there was no manly figure that was there to claim paternity of the kid or the kids.

Or if you’re a man, the lady gave birth to the kid and left the kid immediately, and therefore you are the custodian of that child as a man.

Category two: You are a single woman because you have a relationship with a man, and therefore you have kids whose birth certificate have the name of the second parent as well as yours. That means that during birth of your kids, that man was there to give you support and claim paternity of that kid.

You are in either of these situations or scenarios and you want to apply for the DV lottery or you have been selected a winner in the DV lottery.

  1. If you are in either of those scenarios and you are intending to apply for the DV lottery, the first key point that you should note is that you are supposed to apply as a single.
  2. Applying as a single, you have to add all of your kids. All of your kids must be lined up in the application.

Those two things must be done. If you get successful and you are selected, the process begins. So you proceed the way you did in the application.

When it comes to your kids and immigration, of course, no country will allow anyone to get out of the country with any kid without the consent of both the parents.

For the first case that you are single and your kids, no one came to claim paternity. That means that you have the full custody over your child. That means the children belong to you solely, you alone. No one claims the other parenthood.

In that case, you have nothing to worry about. You don’t need to look for any consent. In any case, whose consent are you looking for? You don’t have anyone claiming paternity.

Even on the birth certificate, there is no indication of the other parent. It is only you. And therefore that means these children belong to you. No consent is needed. You are right to go ahead and immigrate with them. You have the full custody over your children.

But when it comes to the single parent who is maybe in a relationship or was in a relationship and the kids have the second name of the parent in their birth certificates. So there’s someone claiming the parenthood of the children as well. In this case is when you will be required to have the consent of the other parent.

You cannot move out with the children without the consent of the other parent claiming parent hold of the children. It does not mean that it’s a hard process. You just need to get the other parents to sign a consent letter.

It must be a notary consent letter, meaning before an advocate or a court that is signed and stamped by the legal authority that the other parent intends the children to immigrate with you. In this case, you will be required to look for that consent letter and it should be notary, that should be noted.

If you are a single parent, and you have another parent claiming parenthood of the children, then look for his or her consent.

However, there is a second option, if at all you cannot reach the other parent, maybe you were in a relationship long time ago and there’s no way you can access this other parent, then you need to look for the full custody through a court, the full custody of your children. It is called the sole custody.

That means that before a court or an advocate, you will sign the sole custody of your children. It means all of the decisions around your children be imposed on you, be transferred to you.

When you obtain the sole custody over your children, then you have the right to make all decisions, be it academic, be it immigration, about your children, you are allowed to do that. That is the second option.

If at all you cannot reach the other parent in whichever way, then you can go and seek to sign the sole custody of your children and you’ll have all the decisions over your children by yourself without needing any consent letter.

Finally, remember that in this case, if you don’t or you are unable to get the consent letter, you will not be allowed to get out of the country with your children.

Some Questions About Applying As Single Parents In The DV Lottery Program

Question: Is there any advantage applying as a single parent?

Answer: No.

Question: What if I don’t want to initially travel with the kids and later pick them up? Should I tell them so or keep it to myself.

Answer: First, even if you don’t want to go with them, you have to add them in application and also in ds260. And in DS-260 you select not immigrating with them.

Question: I’m the principal applicant and have a husband and daughter, I filled DS-260 with both as my accompany but we got issues with the husband, can I travel alone with daughter, what do I expect on interview because since we separated he won’t be coming, can I remove him?

Answer: First, a consent letter for the kids from him is a must. Second, you can immigrate without him.

Question: Will you be denied visa if you applied as single parent but you want to leave your child behind?

Answer: So long as you included the kid in the application you are safe. You can choose not to immigrate with him. However if you left the kid out, you will be denied visa.

Question: Can you be denied visa if you are married for like 20 or 25 years and you recently got your marriage certificate like this year.

Answer: No you won’t be denied. You did good to get the certificate.

Question: The person on my son birth certificate died some yes back which was my uncle, since the father deny the pregnancy and I don’t have any information about his dead. How am I going to do to have consent letter for my child, can a lawyer sign the consent letter for me?

Answer: A lawyer cannot sign. What you do, get the uncle death certificate. You will be totally safe.

Question: What if one is a widow how do you go about it?

Answer: You use the death certificate of the husband.

Question: If I happen to fill DS-260 form before I give birth and I don’t include my baby, will I be denied visa? or where will I fill baby’s details? Or I can wait to start the process once I give birth?

Answer: You will fill the DS-260 early, and unlock it to add the newborn.

Question: Does the consular at the embassy ask for consent letter during interview or is it at the port of entry you are asked for?

Answer: At the embassy.

I hope this information for the single parents is clear.

Which Children To Add As Derivatives in DV Lottery | Green Card Lottery Application

Which Children To Add As Derivatives in DV Lottery? This guide will focus on which children to be added as derivatives during the application in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.

In my previous post, we learned about the qualifications of a spouse who is supposed to be added as a derivative during the application in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.

In this next guide, which is part two, we are going to learn in details on the qualifications of the children who are supposed to be added as derivatives in the application.

Therefore, we will learn about the three classes of children that are considered qualified as derivatives in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program. But first of all, all these three categories of children should fulfill the following:

  • They should be under the age of 21 years old.
  • They all should be unmarried and single.

Submit individual photographs of each of your children using the same technical specifications as your own photograph.

Based on the document from the travel.state.gov, as shown in sample below, in number 15, it covers about the children.

Children That Should Be Added As Derivatives in The DV Lottery Application

It says…..

When applying in the diversity visa lottery, you are supposed to list the number of children that you have, and you also include all these details about the children.

All unmarried and under the age of 21 years of age, regardless of whether you are living with them or intend to accompany you or follow to join you.

Which Children To Add As Derivatives in DV Lottery?

As you proceed down, you see the three categories of children that qualify as derivatives in the application.

  • The first category of children include all living natural children.

This means all the children that you have given birth to or all the children that are biologically yours, they are eligible to be added as derivatives in the application.

  • The second category is all living children that are legally adopted to you.

These are the children that through court procedures or legal procedures, they have been acquired by you. By the law, they belong to you. They all are eligible to be added as derivatives.

  • The third category include all step-children.

These are the children of your spouse, and this spouse must be legally married to you. All the children that he or she came in to join you with, they all are qualified to be added as derivatives.

It is important to note that even if the child does not currently live with you, or even if you are no longer married to that spouse, even if you broke up, these children, they are still eligible to be added as derivatives in your diversity visa lottery application.

Married children and children who are already age 21 or older, they are not eligible. Even if your child is under the age of 21 and he or she is married, he or she is not eligible to be added as derivative.

There is another important clause from the sample above, and this is the Child Status Protection Act. What does this act do?

This act was put forth to protect all the children that attain the age of 21 years during the processing of the diversity visa. This means that when you were applying in the diversity visa lottery program, the child was not 21 years of age yet. But during the process, he or she turned 21. This act will protect that child.

Even if he or she is above 21 years during the processing, he or she is considered as under the age of 21 and is eligible for the visa.

Finally, the last clause says, a child who is already a U.S citizen or a legal permanent resident when you submit your diversity visa entry will not require to be issued a diversity visa.

This is because he or she is a citizen or she holds the green card. So he or she will not require to be issued another one.

It’s continued to say, even if you omit that child that is already in the United States in your application, you will not be penalized. So if you include him or her or you exclude him or her, it’s not a penalty.

I hope that is very clear and the information is useful. Don’t make a mistake of including any unqualified child because this will cost you the visa.

Who to Add As Spouse in The Diversity Visa Lottery | Derivatives in Green Card Lottery

In this guide, we will learn who qualifies to be added as your derivative when applying for the diversity visa lottery. What is the spouse Diversity Visa lottery?

First of all, we know that if you are a family man or woman, you are required to add the members of your family as your derivatives when applying for the diversity visa lottery without leaving anyone out.

Speaking of the family, here it is referring to the immediate family, that is the nuclear family, the spouse together with the children. But who qualifies to be your spouse? Or who qualifies to be your children when applying the diversity visa lottery?

The answer to this question will be divided into two parts.

In the first part, we are going to discuss on the qualifications of a person to be your spouse and as a derivative in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program. In the second part of this answer, we are going to discuss on the qualification of the children that are supposed to be added as your derivatives.

Therefore, read this guide to the end to avoid jumping into conclusions that are not valid.

Who is your spouse that qualifies to be added as a derivative?

A spouse is your legally married husband or wife. This means that you have a certifying document issued by the government showing that this is your wife or this is your husband. To be more precise, you should be having a marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages in your country.

Having known that, who does not qualify to become your spouse that you should add as a derivative when applying in the diversity visa lottery?

  1. Your girlfriend or your boyfriend does not qualify as a spouse to be added as the derivative when entering the diversity visa lottery program.
  2. Partnering is not allowed. That means if you are residing with a man or a woman or cohabiting with a lady or a gentleman, that lady or gentleman is not your spouse. He or she does not qualify to be added as a derivative in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.
  3. Your fiancé is not a spouse or your fiancée is not a spouse. You are not yet married, meaning you don’t have the marriage certificate. Therefore, during application and you have a fiancée, you are supposed to apply a single and not as married.

But you will continue with your plans and get married and then add him or her as your spouse in the DS-260 form, after marriage.

  1. Your second wife, your third wife, or any other wife apart from your first wife, is not considered as your spouse. So if you are married to several wives, then they are not all qualified as your spouse. Only the first wife is your spouse and is the only one that you will add as the derivative when applying in the Diversity Visa lottery Program.

What if I’m married, but I don’t have that certifying document or the marriage certificate?

If you were customarily married, that means you took your wife or your husband and you went to your parents and you were given a go ahead to go and marry, and therefore you don’t have any certifying document.

Then you will be required to follow the legal procedures for you to obtain the marriage certificate before you enter the diversity visa lottery. Or in some cases, you might apply as married because you’re married, only that you don’t have the certificate. Then you follow the legal procedures and obtain a marriage certificate before you are interview date.

You apply as married because you’re married, yes. Then file for the marriage certificate and make sure you obtain the marriage certificate before you attend your diversity visa interview.

There are many cases where people who are married customarily and did not have the marriage certificate, but after entering the Diversity Visa Lottery Program, they were selected, and what they did, they went ahead and obtained the marriage certificate because without the marriage certificate, you wouldn’t be given visa. Only the marriage certificate will you prove that you are married.

If you are engaged to marry each other and you have applied as a single person because that is what is required, and then you are selected, and in the process you get married and you have your marriage certificate. You will go ahead and add your spouse in the DS-260 form.

But you must note that you must have evidence or proofs of your existing relationship or engagement before entering the Diversity Visa Lottery Program. You’ll have to provide documentation of your engagement or any proof of relationship prior your entry into the Diversity Visa Lottery.

You must have the proofs to prove that you were engaged, you had previous relationship.

Therefore, when applying in the Diversity Visa Lottery Program, ensure you don’t make these mistakes. Ensure that the spouse that you are adding is really your spouse, as we have discussed above.

I hope this information has been useful.

For the next part on the qualification of the children who are supposed to be added as derivatives in the diversity visa lottery application, check here.

Process to follow if you get married after DV Application or after DV Lottery Results

Assume someone is applying the DV lottery, on the day of the application that person is unmarried. Maybe one month later, the person is married. What happens? What if i get married after DV lottery?

Will you be allowed to add your wife or your husband, if you got married after application or if you get married after the DV lottery results is out?

Above are some of the questions many individuals applying for DV lottery program asked regularly.

The answer to these questions is yes.

If you are among those that will be selected or have been selected successfully from the DV lottery program, there will be no problem at all to add that particular person (your spouse) but you can only do that when you are filling the DS-260 form.

Any change in marital status after applying for DV lottery program or after the results is out, it will not affect you negatively in any way.

The problem will be if on the day of your DV lottery application, you are married and you lie, you say you are single, or you are single, you lie, you say you are married.

But if you are single and you get married after the DV lottery application, you’ll be able add your spouse when filling the visa form, i.e DS-260 form, and then you’ll be able to go together to the United States, if you both of you pass the DV interview successfully.

The only difference is this way, on the DS-260 form, if you are married on the day of application and you include you are married, when you go to the visa form (DS-260), when you put your confirmation number and everything, you sign in to the DS-260, you will also see the name of your wife or your husband, and if you have children, their names will be already in the DS-260 form.

But if after the DV lottery application you go and get married after or you have a child later, you will manually add those dependents in that particular form (DS-260). That’s the only difference.

But obviously, you need to have evidence to prove that you got married after the application or after the results, to show that the marriage is the bonafide marriage, not the scam, immigration scam or immigration fraud. Maybe you want just to get the benefit of the immigration to go to America through Green Card lottery.

What if I get married after submitting DS-260?

Report the marriage and provide documentary evidence at your interview. The consular official should request that your spouse file their own application for a derivative immigrant visa (and pay the fees.)

The consular official will interview you both to determine the genuineness of the marriage. If they are convinced your marriage is genuine and you both otherwise qualify for visas, you’ll be issued DV immigrant visas. You must then either immigrate together or you must immigrate first followed by your spouse.

I hope the information is very clear.

What is the difference between the Confirmation Number and Case Number?

There are these two terms that many people are confused or get confused in the DV process. That is the confirmation number and the case number. What is the difference between these two terms?

Confirmation Number

The confirmation number is the number that you get once you apply for the DV lottery program successfully.

Immediately you fill in your details, the details of your dependents and derivatives, and you submit your application to the DV lottery, the number that you receive, that’s what we call the confirmation number.

You’re supposed to keep it safe because this confirmation number is what you will use during checking the DV lottery results. When you’re checking the results, you’ll use this confirmation number to check if you were selected.

The Case Number

When you want to check the results and you visit the dvprogram.state.gov and filled in the entrant status check and submit it, then there will be a notification.

If you are successful and you are selected, there will be a notification saying that your entry was selected and there will be a downloadable notification of the same telling you that you are successfully selected to proceed with the process.

That first notification is called the First Notification Letter (1NL), as discussed in this post here, you will find a number and that number is special to you, is specific to you. That number is what we call the case number.

Case Number is the number that the KCC, the Kentucky consular Center uses to schedule the interviews, and they do this in an ascending order. The case number is the one that KCC uses to schedule for your interview.

That is the difference between the two terms that are commonly used in the DV process.

I hope the information is clear.

DV-2025: Can I Update or Change my DV Lottery application if after submitting I realize I made a mistake?

Can I Update or Change my DV Lottery application if after submitting I realize I made a mistake? Can I edit my DV lottery application after submission?

Can I go ahead and do another DV lottery application, if I found out I’ve made a mistake, a technical error, misspelling of my name, or I did a mistake maybe on my date of birth, or I put a wrong passport photo, will I be able to go back and edit the application?

Can I go and do another application without having any repacaution or any punishment on that?

Those are much related, similar questions, which will be answer in this guide.

Can I edit my DV lottery application after submission?

The diversity visa lottery application is different from the visa form like the DS-260, which is the Department of State form number 260, the visa form (immigrant visa form).

Whether you are applying for student visa, DS-160, non-immigrant visa form, or the immigrant visa form (DS-260), when you are filling those type of visa form, after winning or you want to visit U.S, those types of form are the form you create account first before you start the application.

By creating account, you have a username, you have a login information. You can log in, do the application, sign out, come back later and continue the application. That can be done when filling a visa form, maybe after winning or you want to go as a student or you want to go as a tourist or you are married to American citizens and you have to go to America to join your family.

But if you are applying for the diversity visa, DV lottery, Green Card Lottery application, unfortunately, is not the form where you are going to create the account.

If you are filling the DV lottery form and you end up in the middle of the form application, that application is not registered. That is incomplete application, is not a full successful application.

There is no way you can fill DV lottery application form halfway, then go out, maybe to eat or do something else and then come back to continue. No, it doesn’t work that way. When you stop in the middle of the application, maybe you went out, if you come back, you will start a brand new application. There is no login or create account information.

A successful diversity visa application is the application which is done through the government-authorised official website, dvprogram.state.gov.

Once you finish applying, it will give the word of “success”. It will give you a last name, year of birth, and confirmation number. That is a successful complete application.

Let’s say after the successful completion of DV lottery application, you come back to realize that when you was writing your email, maybe you put an incorrect email address, if you do that type of mistake, there is no way you can be able to correct your application.

What if when you are filling the form, you put a wrong spelling in your names? or maybe you put wrong date of birth in dv lottery, maybe you start with the date, month, year (which is wrong), instead of month, day and year (which is correct). Are you going to change that? No, you can’t change that.

You can correct those information after winning, when filling DS-260 form. But once the DV lottery submission is complete, is a successful application, there is no way you can correct, or can edit anything.

You can make a mistake of the spelling, you can make the mistake of date of birth, but if you put the incorrect passport photo, even if you win the diversity visa lottery, you’ll be denied.

Don’t rush to do the application, make out time and fill the form properly without distraction. Just make sure that you put the correct passport photo, make sure you have the correct date of birth, make sure you have correct name spelling, make sure you fill the correct number of children you have and you put their names, the correct names, date of birth, place of birth, and their photos. Put the correct information about your spouse.

Once you click the button Submit and it say Success, you cannot do anything.

Some people, when they encounter error while filling the form, they do another application thinking that if they do another application, they will be able to correct that information. That’s wrong.

The computer, the Department of State has no way to determine that when you put your correct or wrong email address, wrong or correct date of birth, they are not going to match with that. Let say you were born April 1, 1998, and you filled February 2, 1998, they are not going to know that you’re supposed to fill April 1, 1998. They are not going to know that it was supposed to be the correct information.

Once you put that information for them, that is the correct information. Don’t try to do another application because when do another application, it will be a duplicate application.

Even if the date of birth might be different, they are going to track you with your passport photo. They will be able to match you with your name. There is a software using all the old information like face cognition. The photo you put in, they will match it as been registered into the system.

Nowadays, they may tell you that your information has been stored into the system. If you go ahead to apply, it is at your own risk, you are going to do a duplicate application. For that particular case, you are going to be denied. So don’t do a duplicate application. Don’t do a second application. Don’t try to play smart to do another application.

Even by changing the name or changing the date of birth or changing the country of birth, you are not going to change your face. There is a face recognition feature software to be determining whether you did another application.

If you make any mistake, leave it that way. Win and correct that information when filling DS-260 form. But don’t try to correct it by doing another application.

Can I edit my DV lottery application after submission? I hope this question is now answered.

Thank you so much and I wish you all the best in the DV-2025 lottery application.
